Thoroughbred: State of the art.

A museum catalogue.
Here’s some spreads from a catalogue for a show at the National Horseracing Museum & British Sporting Arts Trust.
I really tried to design around the sense of speed these paintings give off.
As the catalogue goes on, the images get more spread out – faster, until at the end the famous Muybridge photographs are streaking across the double page spread.
The type is a classy English font Perpetua which has an unusual italic which went well with the bulging muscles of the fillies.
The type colours are to highlight different information, the red being a deep blood red; the whole thing being about bloodlines.
The back page has a resume of all the paintings in the exhibition.
