Tony & Hunt Dynamo: ‘Rock’ & Roll typefaces.

There was a commission for a Film Production company logo that called out for a unique typeface that said excitement, strength and Hollywood of the age of the silver screen.

The visual ingredients that went into the letterforms were very rare Rolling Stones Stevie Wonder tour posters, Krazy Kat comic strip (the typeface would have been called Krazy Kat & Ignatz Mouse if the former hadn’t been already taken). The name presented itself in the form of the Sales brothers, Rock & Roll musicians (Rundgren, Iggy & Bowie) and strong characters. The word Dynamo sounded right to describe the kinetic strokes of the font.

I’ve always had a problem with fake versions of brush strokes, but this is so distanced from a real brushstroke as to be something different.
Maybe a real Japanese brush style font is next. It would have to have loads of variants…
