Gingerbread house / Sponge horse.

Cake_1

My daughter’s birthday involved two cakes this year.

A rather large gingerbread house which I had a hand in constructing. IM made the huge slabs of gingerbread with her mum and decorated the mansion all by hereself. See the ‘smoke damage’ from the birthday candles on the left windowframe. Molten marshmallows.

10 days later a cake was made for her birthday party, which was horse themed. Some of the gingerbread walls were use as the background over the top of some (horse) whipped cream. The inspiration came from ‘Whistlejacket’ by Stubbs, which is in the National Gallery. The delicious sponge was made by IM and her mum. A trifle was made out the excess sponge. That was very tasty but less artistic, so it won’t appear here. A mere trifle.

Whistlejacket the cake

There should be a joke about horsemeat here but none spring to mind. So I’ll trott off.
