Life drawing. Nudes on blue & green.

2 nudes on blueTwo nudes on blue. Acrylic on canvas board.
The night of the alternating poses.
An exciting night where things were kept moving by a new set up.
The model alternated between two poses, changing positions every 15 minutes.
This made for a refreshed viewing of the model, with new insights each time.
The idea was the have the two poses on the same page. Due to my positioning I decided to move the far pose in the composition from far left to near right. The acrylic paint was laid on thickly with only some (un-needed) charcoal pencil added.
Here’s some details / crops:

15 minute nude on green. Acrylic on card. A tester for the main picture.

15 minute nude on green card

15 minute back. Acrylic on paper.

1st nude back

Now that is dry paint.

I love the color in the “Nudes on Blue”. The skin tones just POP against that background color and the handling is very painterly. The arrangement of figures from the alternating poses worked into a very effective composition. Very strong painting! I also enjoyed the immediacy of the nude on green with your exuberant direct painting. All are exciting works.

Many thanks Jeff. Exciting is exactly what I want people to say.

I’m sure you feel the act of painting another person is as thrilling as I do.
To be against the stillness and boredom implicit in Euan Uglow’s work.
These models are alive and have personality. They are not just another object.
